Plastic-Free Packaging

plastic-free low waste packaging

As an impact-driven company trying to impact our planet for the better, we thoughtfully research our shipping supplies. In an effort to be radically transparent, we keep our packaging as eco-friendly as possible and minimize waste. Our aim is to ship both consciously and ethically.

For starters, we collect boxes, tissue, and other packaging supplies we receive from our brands and upcycle them. This is one of the main ways we're able to keep our carbon footprint down, since we can minimize the amount of shipping materials in circulation by using what we already have. This process helps eliminate tons of unnecessary single-use waste.

All clothing and small items are shipped in these 100% compostable mailers made from a combination of corn-based biopolymers. It completely composts in 6 months time!

Our compostable mailers are made from a combination of PBAT, a bio based polymer which is compostable, and PLA which is made up of plant materials such as regular field corn and wheat straw. Our use of PLA makes up barely 0.05% of the annual global corn crop, making it an incredibly low-impact resource. Read on for further certifications and information.

The bags are certified by TUV Austria; meeting American, European, International and Australian standards – including certifications for your domestic home compost. To gain these certifications, the product must break down within 90 days in commercial compost and 180 days in domestic compost conditions, including worm farm compost. After degradation, they must leave no harmful residues behind.

Our packaging is mostly plastic-free, except for upcycled materials. We use plastic-free padded envelopes made from recycled paper, cardboard boxes, and paper tape. Instead of plastic, our padded mailers are made from 100% recycled content, including  25% post-consumer waste. Our stickers are printed on facestock made with 100% post-consumer waste that's recyclable.

Also, we specifically carry brands that are low waste, eco-friendly and conscious in the way they are packaged.

Every piece of a Plantdays package is 100% recyclable or compostable.

Low Impact Shipping

carbon-neutral low impact shipping

Case in point: we have a product that’s good for the environment and will help to reduce waste, but it can’t do any of that if we can’t get it to you! And, of course, getting anything anywhere requires energy and fuel.

On average, e-commerce uses about 30% less energy than traditional retail.

An online retailer (hi, that's us!) freights only to one warehouse where it stays until it is actually ordered, cutting down on unnecessary travel and multiple facility energy overheads

When you place an order, your Plantdays goods travel to you by what we call the "public transit system" of shipping, Hong Kong Post which then converts to USPS in the United States or other public postal service in your respective country.

Your Plantdays package essentially hitches a ride along this slow and predetermined system (a la the "public transit" of delivery) which significantly cuts down on the carbon footprint of your delivery, similarly to if you took a bus instead of taking a car.

According to this MIT study, in general, online shopping is more sustainable than buying from a brick and mortar store as long as it isn't rushed.
