fighting against fast fashion

Our Mission

We're on a mission to prove that sustainability is stylish. And it's the future. Our goal is to bring you a carefully-curated selection of sustainable goods that our kind on the planet, kind on people, and kind on animals. We're all about slowing down and indulging in self-care. Think: bubble baths and cuddles.

We love supporting small brands, artisans, and makers that are creating amazing, beautiful & timeless slowly-made homewares, clothing, and skincare essentials for the everyday. Everything we carry is either handmade or ethically-made, small batch, and eco-friendly. We take special care to research the supply chain and materials used to make sure all our goods are sustainable. AKA: we do all the heavy lifting so you don't have to!

We truly believe we are in this together. A lot of small changes can add up to create big systematic change. You can make a difference.

"We don't need a handful of people doing zero waste perfectly. We need millions of people doing it imperfectly." - Anne Marie Bonneau

Our Sustainable Values

We look at brands as a whole and analyze them based on multiple criteria within these three pillars: kind on the planet, kind on people, and kind on animals.

Kind on the planet

What effect does the production process have on the environment? What materials are being used? How much waste is being produced? How much energy is being consumed? These are the questions we ask. We dive deep into the manufacturing process and demand transparency from every brand we carry. In turn, we make it clear to you, so you know what goes into making your clothing, household, and beauty goods. This transparency helps you to make informed choices to reduce your overall carbon footprint and make more conscious, informed purchases.

Kind on people

The ultimate question is this: who made my clothes? We believe fashion should provide fair and equal wages for everyone working on any step of the supply chain from design conception to production to delivery. We respect the time and craft that goes into making timeless pieces that you will be able to love and cherish for years to come. We look for fair trade brands that ensure the livelihood of everyone working across the industry. Also, we prioritize diversity and do not discriminate based on race, class, gender, age, shape, or ability.

Kind on animals

We believe that fashion should protect the welfare of all living things. We consider the materials used and if and how they use leather. Specifically, we look for brands taking positive steps, such as providing industry leadership on important issues. This often involves higher levels of transparency and advocating for reducing harm on the environment as a whole.

"Every time you spend money, you're casting a vote for the the kind of world you want." - Anna Lappe

Our Ethical Practices

Sustainability is built into the foundation of our business. Therefore, it is at the core of everything we do. We invest in brands that are reducing their carbon footprints by minimizing waste, water, and energy consumption. It's not enough to just invest in sustainable clothing, natural skincare, and other goods for low waste living, we also invest in programs to offset the carbon emissions and resources spent. To do so, we simply put back the resources. We are committed to planting trees and preventing deforestation, combating plastic waste and protecting the ocean's ecosystem, and purchasing landfill gas offsets. All with the goal of protecting the Earth.

"As consumers, we have so much power to change the world by just being careful in what we buy." -Emma Watson

We are seriously committed to minimizing our environmental impact. We seek to partner with brands and suppliers that share our values of providing fair, safe, and healthy working conditions throughout the supply chain. This emphasis on sustainability, transparency, and accountability combine to facilitate a circular economy. Social responsibility drives us to attract like-minded businesses who are dedicated to giving back to the community and to the planet instead of taking away from it.

Plastic-Free Packaging

As an impact-driven company trying to impact our planet for the better, we thoughtfully research our shipping supplies. In an effort to be radically transparent, we keep our packaging as eco-friendly as possible and minimize waste. Our aim is to ship both consciously and ethically.

For starters, we collect boxes, tissue, and other packaging supplies we receive from our brands and upcycle them. This is one of the main ways we're able to keep our carbon footprint down, since we can minimize the amount of shipping materials in circulation by using what we already have. This process helps eliminate tons of unnecessary single-use waste.

All clothing and small items are shipped in these 100% compostable mailers made from a combination of corn-based biopolymers. It completely composts in 6 months time!

Our compostable mailers are made from a combination of PBAT, a bio based polymer which is compostable, and PLA which is made up of plant materials such as regular field corn and wheat straw. Our use of PLA makes up barely 0.05% of the annual global corn crop, making it an incredibly low-impact resource. Read on for further certifications and information.

The bags are certified by TUV Austria; meeting American, European, International and Australian standards – including certifications for your domestic home compost. To gain these certifications, the product must break down within 90 days in commercial compost and 180 days in domestic compost conditions, including worm farm compost. After degradation, they must leave no harmful residues behind.

Our packaging is mostly plastic-free, except for upcycled materials. We use plastic-free padded envelopes made from recycled paper, cardboard boxes, and paper tape. Instead of plastic, our padded mailers are made from 100% recycled content, including 25% post-consumer waste. Our stickers are printed on facestock made with 100% post-consumer waste that's recyclable.

Also, we specifically carry brands that are low waste, eco-friendly and conscious in the way they are packaged. Every piece of a Plantdays package is 100% recyclable or compostable.

Low Impact Shipping

We try our best to optimize delivery by utilizing last-mile delivery. The last leg of a package’s journey from a transportation hub to the customer’s doorstep is a crucial part of the supply chain. We optimize this step by choosing the right shipping partner, one that’s committed to the environment. For example, DHL is a frontrunner in green logistics, a set of supply chain best practices aimed at reducing the carbon footprint related to shipping and distribution.

Here’s what else we look for:

  • Optimized routes – Proper route planning according to delivery points reduces the total time on the road. Plus, it reduces pressure on logistics and makes shipping more eco-friendly by cutting total fuel consumption and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
  • Zero-emissions fleets – We all know that burning fossil fuels creates GHG emissions. Logistics companies that offer electric or hybrid fleets (e.g., FedEx) for last-mile delivery considerably reduce the pollution and global warming-causing emissions caused by the increased shipping of e-commerce goods.

We Give Back To The Planet

We are proud to be official partners with global reforestation NGO One Tree Planted. For every order, Plantdays will plant one tree.

“Working with One Tree Planted is a great fit for Plantdays,” said Plantdays founder and Chief Executive Officer, Laura Williamson. “Sustainability is at the core of our business model, and while we make a tremendous impact encouraging consumers to make more mindful purchases, it’s great to have another way to give back and help the environment.”

The objectives of this new partnership include:

  • Supporting global reforestation efforts
  • Empowering consumers with sustainable actions
  • Raising awareness about the importance of ecosystem restoration

Planting trees is one of the best ways to combat the damaging effects of climate change. Trees help clean the air we breathe, filter the water we drink, and provide habitat to over 80 percent of the world’s terrestrial biodiversity. Trees also provide tremendous social impacts by providing jobs to over 1.6 billion people, empowering women in underdeveloped nations, and supporting communities devastated by environmental damage.

“We’re excited for the opportunity to work with Plantdays on such an impactful project,” said One Tree Planted founder and Chief Environmental Evangelist, Matt Hill. “We admire the company’s commitment to planting a tree for every purchase. It’s a prime example of how retailers can make positive change for our planet.”

The partnership is designed to be simple for customers to get involved in global reforestation. For every purchase made from Plantdays, the company will give $1 to One Tree Planted to plant one tree. The trees are planted by local partner organizations and community volunteers in areas where there has been deforestation.
